SCOTT AND SEAN HOLSHOUSER IN CONCERT
SATURDAY, MAY 4, 2019

We welcome our favorite father and son concert for their third appearence at No. 3 Railroad Street! Well, actually, they have been our only father and son performance, but we cannot imagine anyone remotely better.

Father Scott Holshouser grew up in Athens and graduated from Athens High School (now Clarke Central) in 1971. He played at the Hole in the Wall (now the Last Resort Grill) with local greats like Reggie Whitehead and others of that era. I may have heard him when I has a regular there, but I remember it as being the Last Resort, so I may have missed him.

Scott began his musical training in Athens with Ina Gerchefski. While attending Florida State University he studied with Leonard Mastrogiacomo and continued studies in Houston with Abbey Simon.

Scott has been the orchestra keyboardist for the Houston Symphony since 1980 and is accompanist for the Houston Symphony chorus. With the Houston Symphony, Scott has played over 25 solo performances ranging from Bach and Mozart to Gershwin, and played the Schubert F minor Fantasy for two pianists several times with Christoph Eschenbach in concerts. Scott has been a staff pianist for the Houston Opera and Houston Ballet, and currently serves as staff accompanist for the Houston Symphony (Ima Hogg) auditions, and the Corpus Christi, San Angelo, and Kingsville, Texas national music competitions. He is a regular participant in the Grand Teton music festival, playing orchestra and chamber music. He has also taught piano as an affiliate artist on the faculty of the University of Houston. Scott has performed solo concerti with the orchestras of Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Las Vegas, and Stavanger, Norway.

Scott has served as accompanist for over 100 young artist competitions. This is a very important contribution to the recognition and training of musical talent.

Scott met his future wife, Eileen, while accompanying the Houston Symphony Chorus, and they have a son, Sean, who is a great addition to the family.

Sean is now a 19 year-old baritone and is a member of the Houston Grand Opera high school voice studio. He has made many solo appearances, including performances with the Houston Symphony both as boy soprano, and as a baritone adult singer. He sang the national anthem with the Houston Symphony for the July 3 and 4 concerts in 2017, attended by over 15,000 people. He was also the youngest member ever of the Houston Symphony Chorus in 2014.

As a theater performer, Sean has performed over 40 roles with the HITS Theatre in Houston, having performed such lead roles as Bobby Child in "Crazy for You," and the title role in "Sweeney Todd."

Scott and Sean gave a concert at No. 3 Railroad Street on July 29, 2017 on the occasion of the 90th birthday of Gene Holshouser, Scott's father, who often attends our other events with his wife Anne. Scott and Sean also performed on May 11, 2018.

Tonight, Sean and Scott will perform a program of classical and popular favorites from both opera and musical theater. They are thrilled to be back for a third time to No. 3 Railroad Street. Do not miss it!
