OPEN MIC WITH READINGS OF FICTION
FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2019

Open Mic at No. 3 Railroad Street:

It can be your turn! Whether you are looking for a place to practice before hitting the world stage, or wanting to just try playing in front of other people, or wanting to show this audience what you could do if we'd just invite you out for a concert, we are the friendly group you seek.

For Fiction Tonight, there will be two readings from the work of Daniel Williams

Daniel Williams was born and raised on one of the last "old" farms in south Georgia, from which he draws much inspiration and a Southern sense of humor. He has a bachelor's degree in fashion design and lives in Athens.

The author's first novel is A Slice of the Watermelon Moon. Written in the southern vernacular, it is an intimate portrayal of August, the rough Jewish trucker from West Virginia, and Cecil, the obsessive gay narrator, raised on a small family farm and living in Athens, Georgia. It's an unusual, authenic southern "Slice" of time. Each vignette, gathered from present to past, carries the reader on a quirky journey that's as real as a personal diary. August's handmade cabin in the tiny town of Grayberry, Georgia, is the central location for a love affair that spans several moon-filled, sexy years in the Deep South. The author invites you to look through the cabin window at this secret and scandalous relationship in the tall pine groves of rural Georgia.

Glenn Galau will read selected passages from A Slice of the Watermelon Moon.

Daniel Williams will continue reading from his new novel in progress, Karma Holiday, a sort of continuation of Slice. Daniel read part of Karma Holiday at Open Mic on March 15, 2019.
