OZmosis Live!

The OZmosis Live! show will feature readings from OZmosis, As I Die Laughing: Snapshots of a Southern Childhood, and Life After Deaf: My Misadventures in Hearing Loss and Recovery, from their author, Noel Holston. Marty Winkler will perform a song between each reading. Books will be available for sale and signing.

Noel Holston, born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi, is a three-time Pulitzer Prize nominee whose reviews, commentary, and features have appeared in more than 100 publications, from The Washington Post, Salon.com, and The New York Daily News, to The Derrick of Oil City, Pennsylvania. His "Grassy Noel" musings appear regularly on Substack. He and his wife, singer-songwriter Marty Winkler, have been Athens residents since 2005. In addition to his new book, OZmosis, he is the author of two memoirs, Life After Deaf: My Misadventures in Hearing Loss and Recovery (2019) and As I Die Laughing: Snapshots of a Southern Childhood (2023). He will read from all three.

Marty Winkler is best known nationally for opening Lilith Fair in Minneapolis in the late 90's. She is a nationally known singer-songwriter whose work has been played on WNYC and KCRW. Locally she is best known for founding The Georgia Women of Song concert series. Marty was very excited to be joined in her December 22, 2023 No. 3 Railroad Street debut by her talented friends Neil Golden and Lisa Cesnik Ferguson.

Marty Winkler has sung pop, jazz, folk and opera at venues from New York's Bitter End to the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul to the Classic Center in Athens. A Nebraska native, from a family of 14, Marty studied voice at the state university and later with Broadway vocal coach Norman Fields. Her resume includes recording three CDs, most recently Under Your Heart, and opening the Minneapolis stop of the Lilith Fair music tour in 1999. Her songs have been featured on noted musicologist Jonathan Schwartz's WNYC-New York broadcasts and Harry Shearer's (from The Simpson's and This is Spinal Tap) NPR series "Le Show."

In recent years, Marty has turned to acting. She has studied with Sharon Foote at The Alliance Theater in Atlanta, worked privately with Cindy Nason and has done numerous turns performing smaller parts in movies by Tyler Perry, Ben Loederman and other notable directors. She's enjoying her 'morphing' into an actress very much and is pleased to be working her way up the food chain with the help of an agent and other talented folks.
