Sunday Songwriters' Revival
Every Third Sunday of the month, "Mojo" Mark Wilmot hosts local and regional songwriters who showcase original songs and tell us the stories that inspired them. Mark is an Athens native who grew up singing the songs his Granny taught him on their rides through the hills of Northeast Georgia. He sings his own songs in the Athens area with the Redstone Ramblers, including many times at No. 3 Railroad Street. Please see the Events Page for details and the Photo Pages for images of their events. Mark is eager to help promote local songwriters through this monthly event.

This month, William Tonks and Cody Landress-Gibson are featured.

William Tonks After moving to Athens, Tonks became involved in the band Gravity Creeps, recording an album with John Keane. He at this point began to write more music and was introduced to the dobro, which he taught himself to play. Over the years, he also has been a member of bands such as Redneck Greece Deluxe, Workhorses of the Entertainment and Recreational Industry, The Hot Burritos, Barbara Cue and Bloodkin, all local bands around the Athens music scene. More recently he has played in groups such as Romper Stompers, with Todd Nance of Widespread Panic and MrJordanMrTonks, an Americana style music group. He has also performed on albums by Jack Logan, another Athens musician.

In 2007 Tonks released his debut solo album, Catch, with Ghostmeat Records. It features Athens musicians such as John Neff of Drive-By Truckers. The album has several original songs as well as covers. Tonks' most recent project is a Concerto for Rock Band with Strings with noted R.E.M. bass player Mike Mills featuring violinist Robert McDuffie. They have performed in venues all around the world such as Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto and one in Rome, and recently traveled in a tour of the states. - From Wikipedia

William Tonks played one of the first concerts at No. 3 Railroad Street, along with Jordan as MrJordan MrTonks, way back in March 18 2016.

Cody Landress-Gibson After playing guitar in bands throughout Georgia, Cody decided to go out on his own and back to his roots with just an acoustic guitar and a handful of songs. Hailing from the Piedmont of the Appalachian Mtns, Cody brings his own Southern sound and upbringing to his audience by blending elements of Americana, Country, and Rock N' Roll. Cody takes no holds barred approach and writes honestly about living, loving, and dying in Appalachia. He draws on influences such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Gram Parson, and many other great songwriters before him. - From Facebook
