Sunday Songwriters' Revival
Every Third Sunday of the month, "Mojo" Mark Wilmot hosts local and regional songwriters who showcase original songs and tell us the stories that inspired them. Mark is an Athens native who grew up singing the songs his Granny taught him on their rides through the hills of Northeast Georgia. He sings his own songs in the Athens area with the Redstone Ramblers, including many times at No. 3 Railroad Street. Please see the Events Page for details and the Photo Pages for images of their events. Mark is eager to help promote local songwriters through this monthly event.

This month, Sunday Songwriters' Revival hosts Mojo Mark Wilmot and special guests Woody Garrison, Rev. Try Manning

Mojo Mark Wilmot
Mark's band, "The Redstone Ramblers", are a Country Delta Blues band out of Jefferson GA. Mixing originals, Delta and Country Blues, Bluegrass and Gospel, the "Ramblers" are a multifaceted band with many different musical voices. Since 2015 they have been regulars in NE GA playing Live Wire, the Foundry and the Georgia Theatre Rooftop in Athens as well as regular gigs at Stillwater Taproom in Augusta, Shenanigans in Dahlonega, No. 3 Railroad Street in Arnoldsville and a monthly gig at Blind Willies Blues Bar in Atlanta.

Woody Garrison
Woody and Mojo Mark formed Samurai Trout when Mojo returned to Athens from New England in 2002. Redstone Ramblers Mike Flynn and Bill Bokas filled out the band and played the Athens scene until Woody relocated to Hawaii 2006. Woody has a broad range of stylistic influences and incorporates elements ranging from country to classical into his songwriting. Woody has recently returned to performing after a lengthy hiatus and has been debuting a collection of new songs as well as revisiting some of his old favorites. A sample of his work may be found online at soundcloud.

Ty Manning III
Ty Manning has been making music in and around Athens, Georgia since the summer of 1994. His old band The Bearfoot Hookers had a pretty good run; 1,000's of shows, 3 full length/original albums, had songs on 3 Athfest CDs, won 2 Flagpole Music Awards (1 for best rock band, 1 for best roots rock/country band) & have even been on CNN pickin' & a grinnin' at a Crop Mob! (Look it up. It's a country-hippie thang!) Ty also had a short-lived band called Beauty & the Beard with his at-the-time wife Kelly Hoyle (Norma Rae) Both the marriage and Beauty & the Beard fizzled out inspiring a ton of songs. The next year or so, Ty wrote an album worth of songs and did mainly solo gigs. Eventually these solo gigs turned into full band gigs. This full band did several shows under the title Ty Manning and Friends. Since it felt like a band, they needed a name. Ty asked his Facebook friends to name his band. He got over 1,000 band name ideas. He settled on TY MANNING & THE SLAWDOG BISCUITS. The winning idea came from good friend, Kelly Pike! Thanks, Camo Jesus! The line up consists of: Scott Nicholson (keys, guitar, accordion, guitar and vocals), Derek Warren (bass), Connor Griffin (drums) and Adam Poulin (fiddle and vocals). They are a rock-n-roll band with deep connections to 70's and 80's country. All that being said, they can still pack a punch. They sound kind of like if Ace Frehley from KISS sat in with The Black Crowes and did a Ronnie Milsap tune. Ty has been called an idiot, a drunk, a dreamer, a life coach, the Capt'n of the party, a REVEREND, & hell... even a ninja, but no matter what anybody says, he can usually cause a pretty damn good time. Definitely worth checking out.

TY MANNING AND THE SLAWDOG BISCUITS released their first record June 15th, 2018. Recorded with Jay Rodgers at Full Moon Studios in Watkinsville, Ga. It is called EMPTY HOUSE and is available EVERYWHERE online.
