Sunday Songwriters' Revival
Every Third Sunday of the month, "Mojo" Mark Wilmot hosts local and regional songwriters who showcase original songs and tell us the stories that inspired them. Mark is an Athens native who grew up singing the songs his Granny taught him on their rides through the hills of Northeast Georgia. He sings his own songs in the Athens area with the Redstone Ramblers, including many times at No. 3 Railroad Street. Please see the Events Page for details and the Photo Pages for images of their events. Mark is eager to help promote local songwriters through this monthly event.

Fester Hagood and Varney Watson are featured this month

Tracey "Fester" Hagood has been a staple of the Classic City's music scene for over a decade. Hagood began writing music at the age of 16 and has been performing as a solo act in the Athens bar scene since early 2000. In 2015, Fester produced the Redstone Ramblers CD, "Graveyard Gospel." He hosted The Tuesday Night Confessional at The NoWhere Bar in Athens which is the inspiration for the Songwriters Revival. He is one of the pillars of original music in the Athens Area.

Fester was one of Mojo's first songwriters back in May 20, 2018 and played here with Levi Lowrey on August 18, 2018.

Varney Watson
From Rabun Gap, Geoprgia. Like a mighty river, the music of singer-songwriter Varney Watson flows from the streams of Country, Folk, Blue Grass, Appalachian Mountain and Blues. Yet, the result is completely original and absolutely American.

His new album, "Yesterday Clock," has been percolating in Varney's soul for years. Every song is a remarkable story, illustrated by your imagination. Take a tour of the people, sights and sensations of the north Georgia mountains that Varney calls home. It's a beautiful place where he's known great friends and a few scalawags, fed roving bears and raised honeybees.

Every trail reveals his love for Southern Culture and his understanding of the human heart - hopes blasted and dreams come true - deep love and painful loss. Recorded at The Green House Atlanta, this new release is chock full of real life struggles - from 'The Alamo,' to a police chase through a 'Dark Lagoon,' to the ending of a life and longtime friendship in 'Hardcore Entertainment.'

With the pain comes a luscious buffet of good times, laughter and kissing cousins in 'Alabama Family Reunion,' getting locked up for "drunken walking and attempting to crawl" in 'Yazoo, Mississippi,' and the woes of 'Zero Snyder,' a trapper of bygone days, whose honeymoon ends at the Battle of the Little Bighorn - because Varney loves a good joke. The album ends when angels lead us to an enchanted land 'Where the Sun is Shining' and the river's flowing.
