Sunday Songwriters' Revival
Every Third Sunday of the month, "Mojo" Mark Wilmot hosts local and regional songwriters who showcase original songs and tell us the stories that inspired them. Mark is an Athens native who grew up singing the songs his Granny taught him on their rides through the hills of Northeast Georgia. He sings his own songs in the Athens area with the Redstone Ramblers, including many times at No. 3 Railroad Street. Please see the Events Page for details and the Photo Pages for images of their events. Mark is eager to help promote local songwriters through this monthly event.

Gary Grossman and Hill Roberts are featured this month.

Gary Grossman
Gary Grossman is probably not your usual singer/songwriter, but we often do not know how others make a living. From his multi-dimensional web site garygrossman.net, "Welcome to GaryGrossmanLand, a location that is the result of modest talent, little fear of failure, a love of creativity, and a low tolerance for boredom My website has content and links to most of my creative activities including: academic science, popular writing and poetry, my art business including my sculpture, my gourmet venison cook book, and music including my new CD Natural Voices. GaryGrossmanLand actually is a bit more complex and is frequently wandered by a gentleman with a glass of neat whiskey in his hand."

Regarding his music, He says, "The graphic contains most of the information you need to know about my new CD Natural Voices which has received favorable reviews in Flagpole Magazine and air play on Just off the Radar and the Itinerant Angler Podcasts. The CD is designed to teach listeners about ecological and evolutionary concepts, species' biology, and habitats and happy listeners have ranged from 2 to 82. Kids seem to love learning about nature in this manner. At present the CD is being reviewed by multiple scientific journals/societies including the Journal of Mammalogy, American Fisheries Society, Society for Conservation Biology and the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists. Price of the CD is $12.50 plus 3.50 shipping for US addresses, Georgia residents please add 7% tax. Now available at Baxendale Guitars, Wuxtry Records and Jittery Joes Coffee Roaster and, of course, yours truly if you know where to find me in town. Downloads of individual songs as well as the entire album minus the cover and lyrics booklet also are available at reverbnation.com/garygrossman."

Hill Roberts
From Catfish Hill Roberts and The Bottom, Hill Roberts grew up playing music in the Atlanta blues scene. His fierce funk to folk blues band, CATFISH & THE BOTTOM, continues to make an impression on the Georgia road map, picking up new fans at every turn. You can find Hill Roberts performing music from albums FRESH MILK (2015) and available through SPOTIFY, VINLY (LP) and CD, "CATFISH, LET THE MUSIC TAKE" (2017), throughout the Southeast as well as being a session player at Green House Atlanta Studios.

The debut album titled "CATFISH, LET THE MUSIC TAKE" (©: 2017) finds the 'Catfish' Hill Roberts, surrounded by an impressive cast of north Georgian musicians: Adam Higgins of Sailing to Denver (Upright and electric bass), Paul Wagner of Paper Walls (Drums and percussion), Jonny Daly of Paris Luna (Steel pedal), Wes McElmoyle (violin/fiddle), Eric Fontaine (Woodwinds), Nancy Kaye Hill aka Rosey (Backing vocals), Nick Johnson of Randall Bramblett and Col. Bruce Hampton (Electric guitar), Aaron Hill and Chandler McGee of the Law Band (Effects and harmonica) along with other special guests.

Recorded at The Green House Atlanta, "CATFISH, LET THE MUSIC TAKE" is a dreamy and hypnotic journey, packed full of rootsy folk inspired blues songs, constantly skirting the edge between torn-open soulfulness and quiet introspection. Roberts' lush vocals contrasted against his growling guitar riffs and atmospheric sounds, conjure both relief and melancholy in equal measure, turning pain into power!"
