JANET AND THE BLUE DOGS
SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 2020

Tonight, Janet and Dennis Smillie again join "The Original Screw Tops" under the combined-group name "Janet and The Blue Dogs" at No. 3 Railroad Street.

Janet and Dennis Smillie

Wife and Husband team together as Janet and Dennis Smillie ... Not much out there about them that you will not learn about this evening. Dennis recently retired as guitarist with the local group the "Lucky Jones."

Here is Dennis Smillie, captured by Mary Nouri during the first performance of Janet and the Blue Dogs at No. 3 Railroad Street on October 26, 2019

"The Original Screw Tops"

"The Original Screw Tops" has been part of the local musical scene since 2012. They have performed in various venues in and around Athens (places like Hendershots, The Office Lounge, and The Foundry to name a few). They do a combination of original tunes and classics of the blues. The band's lineup is:

John Norris – Drums and Harmonica
Jeff Evans – Bass
Marcelo Buril – Guitar and Vocals

We welcomed "The Original Screw Tops" for their first visit to No. 3 Railroad Street on February 9, 2019. The band was excellent! Glenn said it was his kind of music and very well played. A good-size house and a very appreciative audience, with slapping the tables, shouting, dancing and more. They returned on August 24, 2019.

"Janet and The Blue Dogs"

In advertizing by their venue, the band's event at the Foundry on December 5, 2019 was described as the band's "debut Athens performance." Perhaps Arnoldsville is not considered part of Athens, or we just do not compare, but "Janet and The Blue Dogs" played No. 3 Railroad Street much earlier on October 26, 2019.

But let us continue with the Foundry's spectacular promotion of the band. "Get ready for some big fun! Janet and The Blue Dogs are coming to The Foundry for their debut Athens performance. Featuring the members of the Original ScrewTops (Marcelo Buril, guitar; Jeff Evans, bass; John Norris, drums and harmonica) plus the former lead guitarist of The Lucky Jones, Dennis Smillie, and his powerhouse vocalist wife, Janet Smillie, Janet & The Blue Dogs will have you grinning and moving and grooving to some great blues and some vintage classic rock!"

Everyone liked the band's performance at No. 3 Railroad Street in October. Their performance, and those of the audience, where recorded, in part, by Mary Nouri below.
