We welcomed "The Original Screw Tops" for their first visit to No. 3 Railroad Street on February 9, 2019. The band was excellent! Glenn said it was his kind of music and very well played. A good-size house and a very appreciative audience, with slapping the tables, shouting, dancing and more.
The band has been part of the local musical scene since 2012. They have performed in various venues in and around Athens (places like Hendershots, The Office Lounge, and The Foundry to name a few). They do a combination of original tunes and classics of the blues. The band's present lineup is:
John Norris – Drums and Harmonica
Jeff Evans – Bass
Marcelo Buril – Guitar and Vocals
Janet and Dennis Smillie joined "The Original Screw Tops" for a few songs. Dennis Smillie is the former lead guitarist of "The Lucky Jones" and Janet Smillie is his powerhouse vocalist wife. The combination of the Smillies and the "Screw Tops"bwill be known as "Janet and The Blue Dogs." Joining the "Screw Tops" will surely delight blues fans, in particular, as judged by their Athens Debut at No. 3 Railroad Street on October 26, 2019.
