Fester Hagood's Mojo Confessional Songwriters Showcase
Caroline Aiken and Scott Low
July 9, 2023 at 6 pm for Potluck

Fester Hagood organizes what he calls "Fester Hagood's Mojo Confessional Songwriters Showcase." It builds on Mark Wilmot's "Mojo's Sunday Afternoon Songwriters' Revival" which brought two singer/songwriters to No. 3 Railroad Street each month. We look forward to hearing both new and familiar voices and stories about their songs under Fester's direction. Please read about both series of concerts on the Songwriters landing page.

This month features Caroline Aiken and Scott Low and the return of host Fester Hagood

Caroline Aiken just goes on and on ... and in fine style and voice. For her four performances at No. 3 Railroad Street from 2016 and 2021, I quoted pre-2016 tributes to her and her music which still ring true today. I've dusted them off and will use them again today:

"Named 'The Best Acoustic Act' (Atlanta Magazine) in her birth town of Atlanta, GA, Caroline's rich history includes recording and performing with Bonnie Raitt and the Indigo Girls, opening for Arlo Guthrie, Muddy Waters, Doc Watson, Randy Newman, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, 38 Special, Beach Boys, Janis Ian, and Richie Havens. Caroline appears in regional and national festivals, radio shows, workshops and concert series." -- GA Music Hall of Fame

"'Singer/songwriter' is an adequate description of Caroline Aiken, but it doesn't tell you what you really need to know. It doesn't even hint at the unseen work, thought, vision, organization and management she puts into every performance. It doesn't tell you that if she brings along a band, it's going to be an enthusiastic but disciplined unit that's committed to the total musical experience. And it doesn't tell you that Caroline is an Artist with a capital A, whose seemingly effortless songs form a direct link from one soul to another. During the years I hosted "It's Friday!" it was my honor to present performances by Caroline at least ten times, and I never tired of basking in the glow of her work." -- Robb Holmes, Host of the UGA Radio show "It's Friday!"

Caroline gave great concerts here on May 14 2016 and August 27 2016, along with Todd Lister, local gardener and folk musician. Both events played a large part in starting our enterprise at No. 3 Railroad Street. Her most recent visit was in May 22, 2021.

Caroline also played in Mojo Mark Wilmot's Sunday Songwriter's Revival, playing songs and chatting about them along with the other songwriter, Carly Gibson on February 17, 2019. This was a very memorable afternoon with the two songwriters trading all sorts of good-natured comments and good music as well. Check out that event page for comments, pictures and more links.

Caroline promotes local and regional artists on WUGA's broadcast of New South Showcase. Always an interesting show and we thank her for doing this.

Scott Low sings songs about things he knows, singing songs in the American Folk tradition with a touch of Country and Appalachia. With a wide ranging background stretching from jazz to punk to southern rock, Low pulls from all the things that have shaped him. From Townes and Dylan to Miles and Zappa. But what comes out on stage is an intense rendering of original songs (and a few choice covers). In the summer of 2016, Scott released THE NEW VINTAGE, a 2+ year project of songs that fall into the net of Americana. Initial comparisons to Jamey Johnson, Ryan Bingham, and Hayes Carll have been written by he more Americana press, but there are touches of Tom Waits, and Nina Simone that linger in the shadows. Playing 150+ shows a year all across the nation for the past few years has molded Scott into a seasoned performer that brings a different show every night. Over the years Scott has shared the tour stage/road with Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Caleb Caudle, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Sammy Kershaw, Shovels & Rope, Chris Knight, and many more.

He goes solo or with his band, The Southern Bouillon.
