Potluck at 5:30 and Music at 6:30

ONE NIGHT ONLY !

Marion Montgomery and Glyn Denham
Janet and Dennis Smillie

Roll on into the New Year 2025 on January 18 with a musical double duo gumbo at No. 3 Railroad Street, everyone's favorite venue on the edge of Athens in downtown Arnoldsville. Marion Montgomery & Glyn Denham, well known locally for their steel guitar, harp, and honkey-tonk versions of soulful Americana Blues, will be joined in the second set by rockin blues power couple Dennis & Janet Smillie of Janet & the New Dogs. This will be a rare opportunity to hear Dennis, an incredible musician, on the acoustic guitar. Janet's vocals always mesmerize and this is your first chance to hear her voice melded with Marion's excellent voice.

The combination of these two different musical duos creates a completely different sound, grounded in their musical roots and flavored by their collaboration. This is a Potluck show, with dinner at 5:30, and music starting at 6:30 pm. A donation of $10 for the musicians is suggested. Donations to the house are always welcome. - after a description of the event from Dennis Smillie

It is really going to be a memorable concert! Do not miss it!

Marion Montgomery and Glyn Denham
Although they grew up not far from each other - one in Crawford, the other in Winterville - Marion Montgomery and Glyn Denham met for the first time in a car on their way to play live on the radio. Once the guys got to the station and got out their guitars and harps, it was time to play and they immediately started riffing off of each other. That musical bond has lasted for decades.

Together they play a blend of blues, ballads, and Americana twinged with a bit of old-style country. Marion is best known for his slide, his steel guitar, and his voice. Glyn uses dobro, guitar, and harmonica to cast a musical spell. He plays with several bands including, presently, Driftwood and the Ain't Quite Ready to Playboys. Marion usually performs as a solo act or with Glyn or as a duo with his daughter, Maribel Montgomery Anderson. He has opened for Taj Mahal, John Hammond, and Ronnie Earl.

Montgomery and Denham gave great performances at No. 3 Railroad Street on April 20, 2019, August 28, 2021, November 20, 2021, October 22, 2022, May 27, 2023, September 23, 2023 February 17, 2024 and June 22, 2024.

Dennis and Janet Smillie
No. 3 Railroad Street knows of these two as central members of two groups who have played here. The earlier was Janet and the Blue Dogs (with The Original Screwtops John Norris, Jeff Evans and Marcelo Buril) playing public events on October 26, 2019, January 25, 2020 and October 23, 2021, and (with also Todd Lister) March 19, 2022 and latter as Janet and the New Dogs (with David Herndon, John Norris and Nate Lee) on March 25, 2023.

They have been described as playing smoking blues and tasteful R&B tunes. Whatever you call it, the party does kick into high gear when Janet belts it out of the house (see the third image below). Janet has a great voice and carries the act. Dennis is the former lead guitarist of The Lucky Jones and plays electric and acoustic guitar and other instruments and he also does vocals.
