Fester Hagood's Mojo Confessional Songwriters Showcase
Caroline Monroe, Pickled Holler
Woody Garrison & The Redstone Ramblers
6 pm Sunday, July 10, 2022

Fester Hagood organizes what he calls Fester Hagood's Mojo Confessional Songwriters Showcase. It builds on Mark Wilmot's "Mojo's Sunday Afternoon Songwriters' Revival" which brought two singer/songwriters to No. 3 Railroad Street each month. We look forward to hearing both new and familiar voices and stories about their songs under Fester's direction. Please read about both series of concerts, and about Fester, on the Songwriters page.

This evening, Fester brings us Carolne Monroe, Pickled Holler, and Woody Garrison and The Redstone Ramblers. I suspect Fester will play as well!

Caroline Monroe is a native Atlantan who now lives in Monroe. Caroline fronted a rock group, "Umpteen," in Athens but she realized her heart was in country music and the high lonesome sound of the Appalachian South. She met Athens Outlaw Fester Hagood, a Southern rocker who had a similar passion for country. They played Athens' clubs as a duet from 2005 to 2007 (see image below) while Fester produced Caroline's first CD, "Ghost Town," backed by some of the top musicians in Athens. The songs range from humor ("See Rock City") to heartbreak ("Right Here In My Heart") to hell-raising ("Sunday Sinner").

She's branching out from hard-edged country into a more reflective alt-country style that suits her distinctive, haunting voice - she's been compared to Emmylou Harris, Iris Dement and Lucinda Williams. Mostly, people say Caroline sounds like a country Natalie Merchant. And her fans enjoy Caroline's relaxed and unpretentious stage presence. Caroline's websites include carolinemonroe.com, Facebook and revernation.

Pickled Holler is the story of a man, and a woman, and sometimes some other people, but don't worry this isn't a dirty story. Unless you count all of the dirty picks, muddy traveling shoes, and rustic tales from dusty eras both old and new. Fester describes them as a Bluegrass Americana Duo.

Matthew and J. Williams and their friends have been singing these songs from the Pickled Holler rumored to lie somewhere between Carrollton, Americus, and Athens, GA-but that depends on who you ask) for many years, and expect to continue just as long as there are people who like to smile, dance and listen to great songs. Their website is pickledholler.com.

The Redstone Ramblers with Woody Garrison The Redstone Ramblers is a Country Delta Blues band from Jefferson. Performing originals and classic covers. Southern stories from Georgia's back roads. They played at least nine times at No. 3 Railroad Street with Mark Wilmot in the lead.

The following is a link to a video of The Redstone Ramblers at the first event in this series, on May 8, 2022, filmed and edited by Gregory Frederick: YouTube

Woody Garrison will be sitting in with The Redstone Ramblers this evening. He is a Singer-Songwriter who transplanted to Hawaii from Athens. Woody has a broad range of stylistic influences and incorporates elements ranging from country to classical into his songwriting. Woody has recently returned to performing after a lengthy hiatus with a collection of new songs as well as revisiting some of his old favorites. His websites include soundcloud and Facebook.

Fester Hagood was one of the songwriters invited by Mark Wilmot for the songwriters series. He played and talked on Sunday afternoons May 20 2018 with Jefferson Ross, August 18 2018 with Levi Lowrey and June 16 2019 with Varney Watson. The last one had great music and commentary, of course, but probably enhanced by the contents of the Mason jar that Mark sometimes brought for both the audience and the performers.

Fester Hagood has been a staple of the Classic City's music scene for over a decade. Hagood began writing music at the age of 16 and has been performing as a solo act in the Athens bar scene since early 2000. In 2015, Fester produced the Redstone Ramblers CD, "Graveyard Gospel." He hosted The Tuesday Night Confessional at The Nowhere Bar in Athens from 2013 onwards which was the inpsiration for Mark's Songwriters Revival. Fester is one of the pillars of original music in the Athens Area and an especially good citizen. Fester's websites include Facebook, Reverbnation and Fester Hagood's Tues Night Confessors
